WORKSHOPS
Our Artist Workshops are designed to inform and inspire both aspiring and professional artists with focused, hands-on practice in the beautiful 110 year-old barn. These small groups become supportive communities that share conversation and progress long after the workshop is done. Prices and seating availability will be based on the individual workshops. Invites will be clear about the skill level needed for each event.

Intro to Watercolor Batik
with Kim Gordon

Saturday, July 12, 2025
9:30AM – 3:30PM
$75

Watercolor batik is a modern twist on the ancient Javanese art of batik. Participants don't need to know watercolor technique or how to draw - just a willingness to experiment with color and design. Batik is one of the oldest ways to create patterned fabric besides weaving together threads of different colors. It uses a fluid pigment or dye and a "resist" - hot wax - to slowly build designs. The instructor will make the process more approachable by using watercolor and Kinwashi, a Japanese paper.

KIM GORDON is a Minneapolis painter, batik artist, illustrator and teacher. She was first introduced to batik during an oil painting residency. Her initial intrigue soon became serious study of this ancient and process-oriented technique. Kim’s passion is the natural world and her years of plein air oil painting have provided a foundation for her work in batik.
