ARTIST
SERIES
Held in the 100-year old barn, the Artist Series provides a unique and intimate venue surrounded by natural beauty. You’ve never experienced performances like this.
The barn has featured a full spectrum of singer/songwriters, storytellers, poets, theater companies, film, dance, and orchestra principals, just to name a few. Artists and audiences alike seem to be transformed by these performances in the church-like barn.
One-half of the Artist Series ticket proceeds go to the artists and the other half is distributed through Everwood's Aspiring Artists Fund. Through the Fund, arts-focused teachers in the six counties surrounding Everwood (Dunn, St. Croix, Polk, Barron, Pierce and Pepin) apply each spring for innovative projects that need financial support. We receive dozens of applications each year that are reviewed by our Board of Directors. At each Artist Series performance, we recognize one or more teachers. The grants have ranged from $250.00 to $1,600.00. Everwood has donated almost $44,000 to local school programs.

HUMBIRD + LANUE
SATURDAY JULY 22, 2023
Pay what you can
Picnic at 4:30PM
Doors open at 6:30
Show at 7:00
Combining a wintry longing with the warmth of a familiar folktale, Humbird stretches between experimental folk and environmental Americana to embrace the unexpected. This music invites a refreshing dissonance into the house, it leaves bread crumbs along the path and reflects light back at the stars. Humbird’s debut album Pharmakon (August 2019) is a “...an absolutely hypnotic listening experience” according to Folk Alley. Atwood Magazine describes it as music wrapped in “gentle rebellion”.
Lanue is the latest project from Duluth, Minnesota’s Sarah Krueger. With songs that ride between the cusp of a long winter and the fringe of summer’s swell, Lanue - a name culled from the title of a poem that found its way to Krueger from a thrift store shelf - is both a welcome departure and anticipated return. In Lanue’s self-titled LP (2021), Krueger continues to amplify her knack for straightforward and earnest songwriting while maintaining a vocal delivery that sits like honey over layers of warm synths, guitars, and percussion. On the heels of Lanue’s debut release, Krueger was approached by Low’s Alan Sparhawk with a desire to explore a sound that was more stripped back and stark than the lush, twangy 2021 album. Slowly the pair would chip away at the project in Alan’s Duluth hillside home until they arrived at “Fire in My Mind” - a five song EP that dabbles in an electric synth sound with honest and earnest vocals and a tendency to lean into subtle tension and buoyant obscurity.

Join us for a concert reading of Nautilus Music-Theater's MOONLIT WALK HOME – a new operatic music-theater piece adapted from the poetry of Fern Green Baldwin, mother of eight, wife, artist, grandmother, and great grandmother, featuring her daughters Jennifer Baldwin Peden (soprano) and Christina Baldwin (mezzo). Composer Daniel Nass and director/dramaturg Ben Krywosz collaborated with Jennifer and Christina to create an operatic meditation for the theater, adapting Fern's writing into moments that sing, giving voice to a spirit that describes, remembers, celebrates, laments, and forecasts a life of quiet substance.
THE LAST REVEL
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 16, 2023

Picnic at 3:30PM
Doors open at 5:30
Show at 6:00
After a 5 year hiatus, The Last Revel has reunited to produce new music with a revitalized appreciation for camaraderie and creativity. Now living in three different cities across the US, these three independently talented singer-songwriters bring together the sounds of Nashville, Minneapolis and Bozeman to create Front Porch Americana soundscapes that are equally original as they are timeless. Drawing influence from their salt of the earth Midwest ethos, the band’s songs so naturally blend the genres of Folk, Old Time String-Band and Indie Rock to create a sound that echoes the current heartbeat of America.

“This is the place where memories are made, where we've found friendships that will last a lifetime.”
- SALLY WINGERT
"I just wanted to thank you for the magical, mystical evening that was our introduction to Everwood. Of course, "Underneath the Lintel" was amazing, and Sally just knocks me out. But what you have created is more than a venue for an amazing performance (although that would be sufficient!) — you've shaped a space that holds sacred intentions. And talking to Chris & Bill, I know that every step has been purposeful, and that they are in awe of it, too. All of us who were there were blessed. Congratulations.”

“ASH LAND”
TRANSATLANTIC LOVE AFFAIR
Saturday, July 21, 2018
“It's difficult to articulate what this week has been, what it has provided, what it's meant. When you nurture the human you nurture the artists; when you nurture the artist you nurture the human—and Everwood, the space you have created here, does both. Thank you for your generosity in creating and sharing this place and time where history and humanity are honored in equal measure. It is truly both a blessing and a gift to have experienced it."
- ISABEL (TLA)
"What a beautiful, restful, restorative place Everwood is! It embodies your generous, giving spirit. Thank you for inviting TLA out here, both to share Ash Land—and what a perfect place to perform that play!—and to get back to creative connecting together. In Everwood, you give a great gift both to artists and to your community. (And your chickens are a kick!)”
- ERIK (TLA)
"Performing Ash Land in that barn with that audience is one of the best performing experiences I have ever had. You have built a truly amazing place of peace, art and love here. May it last for a long time."

“ELECTRA”
TEN THOUSAND THINGS
Saturday, October 07, 2016
“I can’t fully express how grateful I am that The Everwood Foundation awarded Menomonie High School the Aspiring Artist grant for the purchase of an adaptive potter’s wheel. Even though the specific student that the grant was written for doesn’t have class until the spring, we have already purchased the wheel and it is currently being used by students every day! In two different ceramics classes, there are five students who have been able to rotate using this wheel. Without this incredible tool, these students would not have been able to experience clay in this way. The confidence and pride on their faces thus far has made all of our efforts worth it. If you don’t mind, I will continue to send you updates on the work being produced by these amazing students.
Also, I would like to thank you for inviting my wife and me to the unique performance of Electra! We have never experienced a performance in such a manner. You have such a creative space to provide for artists.
Thank you again for providing this wonderful opportunity for our students!"
- GRAND RUEGNITZ, Menomonie High School
SHÁ CAGE + E.G. BAILEY
July 23, 2016
“There are moments we are able to step out of the rush of “doing” and just be, to experience the bliss and blessings of life and love and this miracle of the place we call home—Mother Earth. This has been one of those moments. Thank you for affording us this time. It has been refreshing and revitalizing. Many blessings to you and everyone that graces this farmstead. All the best.”
- E.G. BAILEY
“From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your hospitality and open heart-love. For bringing in spoken word and allowing us to be your guests. The food, the herbs, the chickens, the corn, the bees, the prairie, the barn, the muffins, the pancakes, the fruit, the breeze, the porch, the trails—all reasons to forever remember this magical place. May you be blessed. Love, your new friends,”

“GOOD JOB HORSES”
THEATRE FOREVER
August 29, 2015
“What a wonderful weekend! I’m quite sure that that was the best the group has ever played the show. The farm, the space and the time to relax really allowed the piece to open up and for the performers to play with true joy. The love and care and openness you give the art, artist and audience is truly invaluable. I think we’re all still wondering what just happened! You are a gift to the universe!”
- JOHN FERGUSON
“It’s October and I find myself thinking about that amazing time at Everwood Farmstead often. I can’t thank you enough for your generosity and warmth. You two have a really beautiful thing going on. I felt so welcomed, the show was a blast, the food was amazing, the fire was so fun, and to top it off, we got to take a tour and see the bees! That lip balm is amazing, BTW. I’ve said ‘amazing’ four times now, I’m not trying to be overly enthusiastic, I promise—it’s just an adjective that easily comes to mind when thinking of your place. THANK YOU!”
- CARLY WICKS
“THE PUBLIC DOMAIN”
THE MOVIE
August 15, 2015
“My films have been programmed around the country on screens big and not so big--including the Sundance Film Festival--but NO exhibition was more special than the one I received this weekend at the Everwood Farmstead Foundation. Bill Underwood and Christopher Everett are the most talented, gracious hosts an artist could hope to have in their corner, their farm an impeccable parcel of groovy, inspired living in rural Wisconsin. AND...my film screened before a diverse, intelligent audience in a BARN—one of the coolest performing-arts spaces I have ever seen (and now screening venue for film) Actress Sara Marsh joined us for the best discussion we have had after any of our dozens of screenings and talkbacks. I don't mean to gush but I am a renewed man after this weekend. The Everwood Farmstead Foundation is supporting artists and bringing people from all walks of life together in the middle of rural Wisconsin by exposing them to great, varied works of art. I feel lucky to have been invited and commend the Foundation on making the world a better place.”

+ KARA LAUDON
July 18, 2015
“Thank you SO much for your overwhelming kindness and hospitality at Everwood Farmstead! It was such an honor for Kara and I to be part of this wonderful concept that you have created. I do not exaggerate at all when I say that it was one of my favorite shows that I have ever played. I would love to keep an open dialogue on how I can continue to support you in all that you do! I really believe in what you do and would love to support you in any way I can. I hope it is not long before our paths cross! Thank you for all that you do!”
- JOHN MARK NELSON

Huge thanks to Bill Underwood & Chris Everett for having us. If you haven't been to an event at Everwood yet, GO. It's magical AND you'll be supporting artists AND you'll help benefit local charities and nonprofits. These gentlemen are doing something totally unique and super fantastic."

INAGURAL EVENT
PETER ROTHSTEIN,
SALLY WINGERT,
AARON GABRIEL &
PATRICIA KIRKPATRICK
June 08, 2012
“The four essential elements to make theater happen are: a SPACE, an ACTOR, an AUDIENCE and an IDEA. I can't imagine a more inspired SPACE for ACTORS and AUDIENCES to come together. And as far as an IDEA, well the whole IDEA behind Everwood is nothing short of miraculous.”
- PETER ROTHSTEIN
“From the hayloft openings you can see the storm coming. The quality of light changes. The wind ruffles your hair, gently. It smells like rain. Your mind seems open to the vista, to nature, to the possibility of a different approach to the work. The journey to Everwood is just "away" enough. I'm renewed by the change, the beauty, the land, the space to create or just muse. Founded and hosted by two of the kindest people I know, Chris Everett and Bill Underwood, Everwood Farmstead has become the place I keep trying to get back to literally and figuratively. There my art becomes...”
- SALLY WINGERT
“It was an utter privilege and pleasure to be at Everwood: to walk through the grounds, overlook the prairie, sit in your kitchen, read to the community, sleep in the tress (almost!), eat in the candlelit barn. Thank you for the warm and gracious welcome. I’m so impressed with how the place you have created honors the past and looks toward the future.”
- PATRICIA KIRKPATRICK
